Romance Scam Targeting Finances on a Dating App
A man named Jim from Texas received a friend request on Facebook from a woman named Renna. Attracted by her youth and beauty, Jim accepted the request. Renna claimed to be a woman from Hong Kong living in Los Angeles. At first, they were just friends, but over time, Renna gradually gained Jim’s trust and persuaded him to invest in a cryptocurrency binary options opportunity. Under her guidance, Jim transferred a total of $940,000 through Crypto.com and wire transfers. When Renna later requested an additional $500,000, Jim refused due to lack of funds. However, Renna repeatedly pressured him with various excuses to raise more money. Feeling uneasy, Jim consulted attorneys at S-GARC, where he learned he had become the victim of a romance-based cryptocurrency “pig-butchering” scam. On his lawyers’ advice, Jim gathered evidence and initiated a recovery process.

Stock Investment Scam
In early 2025, Johnson was on a WhatsApp call with his family when he was added to a stock market discussion and learning group. Initially, Johnson merely observed the group, but an administrator later offered to introduce him to Professor William of Wall Street if he was interested. Initially skeptical of Professor William’s predictions, Johnson completely trusted the “professor” after his second prediction turned out to be correct. After building trust and hope, Professor William led Johnson to download an unregistered, fraudulent trading platform and invest $430,000. The platform then refused withdrawals, citing various margin requirements.

Crypto Asset Theft
At the end of 2024, a woman named Cathy, a successful businesswoman who strongly believed in the future of digital assets, registered with a crypto exchange through a video advertisement and purchased BTC worth $200,000. One day, she received a message on social media saying, “You can make money without leaving home, just by moving your fingers.” This piqued her interest, and she wanted to learn more about the person in charge. The person in charge told her that she only needed to accept tasks, place orders on various e-commerce platforms, and receive commissions if they received favorable reviews. At first, Selena only accepted the lowest tasks with a tentative attitude, but later she found that she could really get commissions. Later, when she accepted advanced tasks, she found that she needed to complete five at a time before she could finish the work, but the high cost made her helpless.
